So are the days of my life.  O.K.  Maybe I’m mixing my metaphors again.  I’m just trying to express my exasperation at how little I’ve accomplished considering how quickly time seems to be passing lately.  Tomorrow I’m staying home ALL day.  Just me, school with the kiddos, and Mt. Washmore.  I’m hoping to FINALLY post the blog post I’ve been working on for 2 months on the Sex, Love, and Marriage blog.  It’s about the “M” word…and I don’t mean “marriage.”  It has been put off long enough.  It’s definitely one of those “feel the fear and do it anyway” situations.  I’d also like to spend nap time reading.  I picked up a copy of Starving Jesus, Craig Gross’ latest book.  His book The Gutter was AMAZING!  It’s pretty close to what I would write If I were going to write a book about SEVENS and why we do what we do.  Good stuff!

Speaking of writing…I’ve been published!  If you’ve already heard this story, smile and celebrate with me again. 🙂  I submitted a story for a compilation book that will be coming out in the next few months.  I received a note from the publisher saying they’d be honored to include my story in their book, pay me a small fee, and send me a limited edition hard cover when the book is released.  I am so excited, I’m telling everyone who will listen!  It’s my first submission and my small (big in my mind) success is giving me the courage to submit some other pieces I’ve written.  It’s a great start for me.  I’ll blog about it when the book is released.  I’ve always dreamed of seeing my name printed in a book.  I still dream of the day my name is printed ON a book.  I have so much to learn and I’m eager to do so.  Thank you to all who have encouraged me to keep writing. 🙂

Now I’m off to write about the “M” word…

At Last…

My best friend Tawnya married the love of her life on Saturday.   After severals years as a regular in the dating game and putting up with a lot of carp (rearrange those letters if you want to), she found the fish in the sea that was meant for her. 🙂  James adores her and so does his family.  At the rehearsal dinner they kept talking about how beautiful she is and that James thinks she’s perfect.  They lavished their praise on her and made her cry. I loved seeing her receive such glowing acceptance and I was so honored to be a part of all of the last minute preparations and the ceremony.  The week before the wedding was packed full of last minute details, but I was glad to just be with Tawnya.  That doesn’t happen very often with me in Denver and her in Kansas City.  She is so precious to me and I couldn’t be happier that she has found what she has been looking for…a man who sees her, loves her, accepts her, thinks she’s amazing, and claims her as his own.  Tawnya told me that James leaned over in church and told her, “God made you for me”.  Mmmmm…that’s good stuff.

The weekend also held the expectation that the DOE club would be gathering for a mini-reunion.  It sort of happened, but not really.  Sure, we were all staying under the same roof, but there were several factors that kept us from really getting to visit like old times.  Exhaustion was #1 on the list.  Maybe next time under circumstances that are a little more flexible.  We did however enjoy some Oreos – I think it’s an unofficial rule that we can’t gather and NOT do that.  Here’s a pic of the DOE’s that were able to attend the wedding.  L-R is Taj, Keri, Tawnya, Me, Megan, and LaRica.  Doesn’t Tawnya look like a princess?

It was also great to see other York friends like Michelle, Jenn & Joe, and Paul & Shalee.  I’ll post more pics, but I have to wait for Taj to put them on Facebook or send me a disc.  She’s an amazing photographer!  So is her husband Tommy – who was fabulous putting up with a house overflowing with estrogen for a whole weekend.  He was such a good sport. More on the DOE’s later.

For those of you who knew I went to Kansas City with a sinus infection and prayed for my health, thank you so much.  Between that and my pet allergies, it was a hard week.  I made it through and was able to sing at the wedding and reception.  Singing with old college friends was great.  Oh how I miss that!  I’m home and feeling better but I’ve still not caught up on my rest.  I’m taking it easy this week and resting as I can.  I’m glad to be back in dry Colorado.  Humidity is highly overrated.

Not exactly my idea of a fun time, but my friend Alex is a little nuts and it’s HIS idea of a fun trip. 🙂  Alex is the husband of my Captivating Sister, Wendy.   He and his friend Steve flew into Seattle on Monday and plan to take 17 days to ride down to San Francisco.  They’ll see the sites, meet some locals, and spend time with each other trekking down the coast pulling bike trailers.  They are keeping an online journal to  keep their families and friends updated on their location, news/stories/anecdotes and pictures from the trip.

Alex said on his blog: “Interesting things always happen when we travel places.”  (That’s him on the right.)

If all goes well, they will fly back to Denver on September 4th.  You can check out their adventure on their site http://cuesofttrek2008.wordpress.com/ , leave them a comment of encouragement, or just pray for their safety and health as they travel.  I love that they’re taking time to do something they love.  Way to go Alex and Steve!  Please keep both of their families in your prayers while they’re away.  I don’t know Steve, but here’s a picture of Alex’s family.

I’d like to take a moment to thank all of the thousands of wonderful people who nominated us over the years for the show. When we heard about the nominations, tears flowed… abundantly.

God is so good. Through Josh’s life and death hospitalizations. Through Kayla’s trials and triumphs with her disorder. Through her brain surgery and recovery. And through the day to day challenges we’ve faced, God is so good. And He will continue to be.

This experience has changed our lives in many, many ways. Kayla’s health has skyrocketed in the time we’ve been in our new home, and Josh hasn’t had one incident with his asthma. I don’t have to take Kayla’s temp all the time inside our home. And as we are in the hot months, spending time inside is never boring. 🙂

Thank you to our wonderful community, Colorado Springs. Thank you to Premier Homes. Thank you to all of you who gave of your time, money, effort, gifts, products – the list could go on forever. We are so very grateful to all of you.

I’ve received cards, notes, and emails from thousands of people – telling me that this experience changed their lives. Let me say, that we feel so very blessed by all of YOU. And we want to thank YOU.

David Phelps – performs my favorite song – THAT’S WHAT LOVE IS – on our episode. His generosity and love never cease to amaze me. He is an incredible person – I hope you all check out the page on this website about him, and go to his website as well!

Heat Relief Depot – provides the cooling vests that you see Kayla wearing, and have made it possible for her to get out of the house occasionally. Their information is on the Kayla’s Story page, as well as the Links page.

Gift of Pain – is the foundation that has helped our family numerous times over the years. Gabby’s parents are the ones who started the foundation, and their hope is to help all the families out there who deal with this very rare disorder on a day to day basis. Thank you for your support – and to all of you who have given over the years to help provide for the medical needs. Their info is also on the Kayla’s Story page and the Links page.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And praise God from Whom all blessings flow. God Bless You All!

***Don’t forget their episode of EM:HE airs again tonight on ABC! You can read more about Kim and her family on her website: www.kimberleywoodhouse.com
