Surely some of you guessed that Belle is my favorite animated character. Beauty and the Beast was our first date. She loves books. She yearns for adventure. She ends up with a beast. Okay, maybe that last part only applies to me in his princely form. 😉

Confession time:

I have had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I survived. There was no thriving today. It has taken all that is within me to post anything at all. So, I confess that this is NOT a free hand drawing. Like my skills could improve that greatly overnight! I traced the outline of Belle and then I filled in the other details. I don’t have the eyes right. Or the nose. Or the hair. Because it’s partially my work. Sometimes we get by with a little help from our friends, so I applaud whoever created Belle and gave me a form to trace. Call me a cheater. See if I care. Or offer me grace in this moment. I really need it today. Tomorrow will be better!

I leave you with a piece of useless trivia (The beast’s real name is Prince Adam), and my favorite quote from the movie: “It’s not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting *ideas* and *thinking*…” ~Gaston

This one was a no-brainer for me. I love how this word looks, how it rolls off my tongue, and especially the feelings it evokes in me. Listen to some of these synonyms: bold, brassy, confident, gutsy, forward, brazen, cheeky, kicky, saucy, chic, classy, sharp, swanky. This word is awesome, and easily my favorite. 🙂

This whole “favorite” business is beginning to get on my nerves. Like choosing best friends, I have a favorite in each book genre. Choosing just one is a small form of torture. AND it can’t be a book that’s been turned into a movie? You might as well tie my hands behind my back then tell me to draw. Most of my beloved favorites have interpretations on the big screen already. Not fair. (Okay enough with the whining, Niki!)

Tris Pryor is the heroine in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. She sold the movie rights to Summit Entertainment, so there’s a possibility that I may someday sit in a darkened theater watching Tris come to life. Right now, there are no pictures of her, just a description from the novel. While she is not my very favorite book character, I like her a lot, and she is the closest I can come to cramming myself into the criteria of the challenge. I also thought about drawing Four, the other main character (love him), but I find guys harder to draw.

“I sit on the stool and my mother stands behind me with the scissors, trimming. The strands fall on the floor in a dull, blond ring. When she finishes, she pulls my hair away from my face and twists it into a knot..I sneak a look at my reflection when she isn’t paying attention–not for the sake of vanity, but out of curiosity…I see a narrow face, wide, round eyes, and a long, thin nose–I still look like a little girl, though sometime in the last few months I turned sixteen.” ~Chapter 1, Divergent

Divergent is the first book in a great young adult dystopian trilogy. Insurgent, released this summer, and the final book will be out sometime in 2013. Can’t wait.

This one was tough! I have a high school best friend, a college best friend, a Denver best friend, a writing best friend, an overseas best friend, and the list goes on and on for every area of my life. We girls tend to categorize our friendships. It goes way beyond the terms acquaintance, friend, and best friend. So how did I decide who has that coveted role as my very bestest best friend? It wasn’t as easy as some might think.

Who do I tell my secrets to? Who do I run to first when I have celebratory news or my heart is hurting? Who knows all of my favorite things? Who gets to tease me about personal stuff that would be embarrassing for anyone else to know about me? Who has my back 24/7/365 no matter what kind of mood I’m in? There’s only one person. I don’t think I did him justice, but yes, Benny is my best friend, and it has nothing to do with being married to him. 🙂

This is his Facebook profile pic. Isn’t he handsome? 😉

My favorite place? That’s a tough one. I love my bed. I love bookstores and coffee shops. I love being in the mountains. But I decided that in this season of life, I most desire a cozy chair in a quiet corner. I delight in a cup of Chai and sinking into my latest book. I’m sighing just thinking about it. 🙂
