A Sweet Blogger Award…

I received a blogger award today from my friend Tonya. The category was for Social Conscience. Thank you Tonya for thinking of me and honoring me in this way. Now I’m supposed to pass it on…

-For Staying True to Their Beliefs

Since Tonya already awarded some of my closest friends in Denver, I’ve decided to look outside my local circle and award some of my far-away (only in miles) friends.

For Creativity I choose Tawnya Marie, my closest friend and the most creative and artistic person I know. Everything she touches glows with life and promise. She makes the world a brighter and more colorful place to live. She calls forth the creator within me and I love her for it.

For The Spirit of Giving, I choose Jetty Betty. She’s been giving me encouragement and love almost since Day 1 of my blogging life. She is genuine, loving, and such a great example to me and many others. I don’t get over to her blog nearly enough, and I can’t wait to see her again.

For Keeping it Real, I choose Claudia Mair Burney. The woman has an amazing way with words and she isn’t all rosy and fru-fru when there are tears in her eyes and heart. She’s funny and honest and lays it all out there for the world to see – not just the good, but the bad and the ugly as well. She’s the only sassy lady on this list that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet.

For Social Conscience, I choose Heather Meyer, my red-headed step-child friend. We’ve discussed the possibilities of our being separated at birth and despite the fact that we are both red-headed and step-children, it’s truly impossible seeing that I’m older by years and not minutes. But our lives have run very similar courses including what we do for a living and how we choose to focus on the marginalized in society. She is way more official than I am, and she’s got a lot more knowledge as well. Kudos to you girl! You Rock!

For Staying True to Their Beliefs, I choose Jennifer King, my enemy turned soul mate/heart friend. She loves the Lord unapologetically and stands firm even when facing much opposition from the enemy. She also responds in love (but with conviction) to believers who take a different view on issues (they are not the enemy). She knows what she believes and why – How can I not respect and applaud that?

Thanks Ladies for being such an inspiration to me! There you go, a Kansan, a Texan, a Michiganian, a Coloradan, and a Canadian. I think I may have made one of those words up. Anywhooo…I’m spreading the bloggin’ love around! lol 🙂

I’m really enjoying the discussion that has been happening here lately. I have another post that will be up on Monday morning that is related to the discussion and comments made here this past week, so I hope you’ll join me and leave your mark.

Today I want to send you to the blogs of a few friends that have joined us in our ministry efforts.

My friend Jan is raising awareness about our ministry and the plight of the homeless and at-risk youth and young adults we work with. Through the month of November she is hosting a blanket drive that also includes gift cards, ski gloves, and hand warmers for us to share with our friends on the streets during the colder months approaching. Her goal is 100 blankets and as many hand warmers, ski gloves, and gift cards as possible. Please check out her blog and join us by donating what you can. Among my friend Kevin’s many talents is screen printing. He was recently inspired to design a t-shirt to sell to anyone who wants one and donate the proceeds to SEVENS. Go to his blog for more details. You can have a one of a kind (well almost) shirt and help our ministry at the same time.

We are in the middle of a very difficult phase of our ministry. Several of our supporters have come to the end of their time commitment to us and are no longer contributing to our ministry financially. Some have found other very worthy causes to give to, and some have had life changes or hardships of their own that prevent them from continuing their giving. We are so grateful for all that we have received and to all who have given and continue to give. But our needs have not changed and we are severely falling short of our budget for our salary, ministry expenses, and items needed to pass along to our friends on the streets. If you or someone you know is able to join us in our efforts here, we would love to hear from you! We are looking for individuals, families, small groups, churches, and businesses that can make a monthly commitment to help us with our costs and expenses. Ofcourse we also welcome one-time and occasional gifts and have added a Paypal button to our blogs and our website to make that more convenient. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: Woodhouse Family

The big reveal of Kim’s new house is at 2 p.m. this Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs. It pays to have friends in high places that can hopefully save you a spot since you’ll get there very shortly before the family is due to arrive. 😉 Doing this with three kiddos in tow will be interesting, but I’m armed with stuff to keep them occupied while we stand around waiting. The episode air date hasn’t been announced yet, so I’ll get back to you on that one.

I have a list of questions to ask Kim after things calm down. Questions like…What do they do with all of your stuff while they’re building? Did you cry a lot during filming? If not, how did you remain calm? How detailed did you get to be in your requests of what you’d wish for? What’s it like talking to Ty on the phone? How did your neighbors handle all the extra traffic/noise in the middle of the night? When will the house tours begin? lol

A dream is a wish your heart makes…

In addition to Friday Family Movie Night, we also watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as a family on Sunday nights.  It is by far the best show on television (Yeah ABC) and I’m looking forward to the airing of the episode that will feature my friend Kim and her family!  THEY WERE CHOSEN!!!

I waited and waited this morning, hoping my phone would ring before I had to shut it off when I got to church.  I prayed.  I told several of my friends that I was waiting to hear if the Woodhouses had been chosen or not.  After services I went outside and turned my phone back on and had a message from Kim’s best friend letting me know the bus had arrived this morning! I laughed and cried and jumped up and down a bit, then told my friends who were still hanging around.  I was am so excited!  I want to know a thousand little details that I don’t have yet.  Obviously Kim’s going to be unavailable for awhile, so we’re trusting her friends and family to keep all of us locals apprised of the plans for the build and the reveal so we can be there in the crowd to scream, “MOVE THAT BUS!”

Thank you to all who prayed and are going to continue to pray for the Woodhouses throughout this process.  This is a HUGE blessing and I couldn’t be more excited for them!  This sweet family is such a gift to so many people and I’m just thrilled to know that some of their dreams are coming true.  Personally, I’m praying for healing for Kayla as well.  I hate the thought of her living with these medical conditions her whole life and I want God to heal her young body!  He just provided a new home and numerous other miracles for their family and I know He can heal her too, so I’m asking for it.

I’ll let everyone know when the reveal is and when the show will air as soon as I know!

Family Movie Night

Congratulations Michelle!

She is the lucky winner of a signed copy of The Restitution!  Thanks to all who played.  I’ll be doing more give aways in the next few weeks on my blogs, so check back often for more free stuff!

It’s Family Movie Night at the Nowell’s, so Zoe and I are off to Redbox to pick up our flick.  We’re going to use our coupons for free pizza, and a new friend from Friday school told us to try a new popcorn topping : Equal parts coconut oil and agave, with a sprinkle of sea salt.  Sounds yummy!

Friday Family Movie Night is a big deal at our house.  We were invited to a family game night at a friend’s church tonight and the kids voted to stay home and carry on with our tradition instead. 😉  Here’s how it works.  Each week we take turns picking a movie and choosing what’s for supper.  After a light supper we all get in our pajamas, make popcorn, get our fuzzy blankets ready, gather in the livingroom and stake out our territory and settle in for the night with the chosen movie.  After the movie we end up cuddling on the couches and/or wrestling around.  Bedtime is a little later on Fridays, but usually Benny and I watch another movie after the kids go to bed.  It’s a great way to wind down from the activities of the week.

Tonight’s movie is Barbie as the Island Princess.  Guess whose turn it was to pick? 🙂
